FIRST, ADVANCED

FIRST and ADVANCED for students age 15 – 19.

Course Books: “COMPLETE FIRST” and “COMPLETE ADVANCED” from Cambridge University Press

Class Time: Each class is 1 hour – 45 minutes and the class meets 2 times a week.  In Addition, we have 30 minutes each week for a Speaking Lab for this course.

In the course “FIRST” students study at level B2 (Upper Intermediate), and in the course “ADVANCED” students study at level C1 (Advanced) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).  In these courses students study and work in all aspects of learning English including reading, writing, listening, and speaking as well as learning vocabulary and grammar needed to function with English at these levels.  Also, the courses use multi-media resources with computers and an electronic whiteboard and students have opportunity to do extra studies with on-line resources for each course.  We also use on line resources to help students learn and practice new vocabulary.  As Cambridge courses, the course materials are interesting and challenging and are regularly updated and revised so that they are modern, relevant, and effective in preparing students for high level exams.  And the authors are some of the most successful and talented authors available today.

Our main goal in both of these courses is that students will be successful and effective in their use of English at these two levels B2 and C1.  As exam preparation courses, we also work to prepare students for the Cambridge University exam for each level.  We use exam preparation materials along with the course books and students practice new language skills while preparing for the exams. During the school year, students take practice exams at three different times and these practice exams help students to see their progress with the language as well as prepare for their course exam.  Students who successfully complete the course and pass the exam receive an international certificate from Cambridge for successful completion of each level.
